Driving while impaired: DWI is the offense of operating a motor vehicle in a mentally or physically impaired condition, which contain the consumption of enough alcohol (or drugs) to raise one’s blood alcohol content above the statutory limit. Penalties for this offense vary from State to State.

In 2005, over 50% of drivers involved in fatal crashes had a BAC of .16 or higher. The average BAC recorded was an unbelievable .17 - almost twice the legal limit! Drivers with a BAC over the limit of .08 are nine times more likely to have a prior DWI conviction.
