Hialeah is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. According to the 2000 census, the city population was 226,419. As of 2004, the population estimated by the U.S. Census Bureau is 224,522, making it the fifth largest city in the state. Hialeah is part of the Miami metropolitan area and the Greater South Florida metropolitan area.

Housing Characteristics: In 2006, Hialeah city had a total of 74,000 housing units, 6 percent of which were vacant. Of the total housing units, 48 percent was in single-unit structures, 51 percent was in multi-unit structures, and 1 percent was mobile homes. Eighteen percent of the housing units were built since 1990.
Housing Costs: The median monthly housing costs for mortgaged owners was $1,376, non mortgaged owners $458, and renters $829. Fifty-nine percent of owners with mortgages, 26 percent of owners without mortgages, and 75 percent of renters in Hialeah city spent 30 percent or more of household income on housing.
