Dui License

When a driver is charged with a DUI (driving under the influence) they face several penalties, depending on the severity of the charge. The most immediate of these is the loss of their driver's license. In many states, under a procedure called administrative license suspension, drivers start to lose their licenses immediately following an arrest, before a conviction or in response to a driver refusing to take a chemical test. All states also adhere to a zero tolerance policy for drivers under age 21 who are caught under the influence, and part of that penalty includes a loss of driving privileges. Many states also have mandatory minimums in affect that require a suspension of a driver's license for a set amount of time, which is normally dependent upon the severity of the DUI charge and the number of prior convictions for DUI a driver has. For those who lose their license immediately due to an administration license suspension, most states require the driver to complete a DUI application process in order to get their license returned, and often times, there is a window of time in which that process can occur. If a driver does not complete the process within that window of time, they risk losing their license for much longer.
