A first-time ca dui offender will face a fine ranging from a minimum of $390 to a maximum of $1000 and a jail sentence extending from at least two days to not more than six months. A dui california attorney will inform his or her client that his or her privilege to drive will be suspended and that his or her driver's license will be required to be surrendered to the court. If the court deems that the DUI offender poses a public safety or traffic safety risk, it may prevent him or her from obtaining a restricted driver's license. The court may also require that the offender enroll and successfully complete an approved DUI program. First-time offenders with a blood-alcohol level inferior to .20% are required to attend a program of at least 30 hours for a minimum of 3 months, while those with a blood-alcohol level of .20% or higher or who refused to submit to a chemical test must attend a program of at least 60 hours for a minimum period of nine months.
