Question:

My Florida driving privileges were revoked. What do I do now?

Answer:

A Florida DUI carries with it serious consequences, including the revocation of your drivers license. The period of time for which your license has been revoked can vary depending on the circumstances. For example, for a first offense misdemeanor DUI, the drivers license suspension or revocation will not be as long of a suspension as if you have multiple DUI defenses or if your DUI resulted in someone getting hurt.

Once your license is suspended, you have a fairly limited array of options. You can:

  • Request a restricted license. You may, in some cases, be granted the limited right to drive to certain places, such as to and from work. You will have to prove actual necessity though- i.e. that there is no other way for you to get to work and that you won't be able to provide an income for yourself if your license is not reinstated on a limited basis
  • Fulfill the requirement of your sentence and then request that you can get your license back at the end of the term of suspension. You will usually have to pay a fee to have your license reinstated after you have completed all the requirements set by the court to get it back.

You may wish to consult with an experienced DUI lawyer in order to find out what your best course of action is after your license suspension.
