The answer to this question depends on the rules of your local Department of Motor Vehicles. Usually, a DUI conviction will stay on your driving and criminal record from 7 years to a lifetime. However, an insurance company will only penalize you with surcharges for having it on your record only up to 3-5 years after the conviction date.
If you have been charged with a DUI, consult with a DUI Attorney to be aware of your defense options.
