DUI Officer Charged with DUI

After a two-vehicle crash on Saturday, a Master Police Officer, who was part of his department’s Selective Enforcement squad, was himself charged with drunken driving.
The Selective Enforcement team, made up of eight members, focuses specifically on enforcing drunk driving laws in Virginia Beach. In fact, the officer was responsible for 70 DUI arrests in 2007 alone. Therefore, many consider it to be ironic that he was, himself, arrested for the offense. The accident did not result in any injuries; however, no other details were released to the media.
A spokesman for the police department said that the officer posted a $500 personal recognizance bond and that he was assigned to administrative duties following his arrest. The officer had been responsible for arresting former NFL star Bruce Smith on a DUI charge earlier in May
