Virginia Police Chief Arrested for DUI
August 3, 2009
The chief of police for Alexandria, Virginia was recently forced to resign after he was arrested for DUI charges. The chief was involved in an automobile accident two weeks ago. At that time, it was established that his blood-alcohol content level (BAC) was more than twice the legal limit.
In Virginia and most other states in America, the legal limit is 0.08. This means a person can have 0.08 percent of his or her blood containing alcohol, while still being considered safe to drive. For most individuals, this is less than one glass of wine or can of beer. The chief of police, 58-year-old David Baker, had a BAC level of 0.19.
The chief did not intend to resign after the incident, but the city council called for his resignation. It did not feel that he was setting a good example for the community. Baker stepped down from his position on Friday, and he was replaced by the Executive Deputy Police Chief.
