Tennessee DUI Offenders Hold Carwash for MADD
August 24, 2009
Those individuals who have been arrested for DUIs in the state of Tennessee will be given the opportunity to volunteer for a program that helps keep intoxicated drivers off the roads. Inmates at several local and state prisons were asked to volunteer for a carwash, benefiting the local Mothers Against Drunk Driving organization (MADD).
Authorities ensured that none of the participants in the carwash was convicted of violent crimes, to make the public more at ease. The carwashes were sold for $10 each and all of the proceeds went to increase the education and awareness about the dangers of drunk driving.
Tennessee jails are often overcrowded and filled with DUI offenders who have been charged with driving under the influence. MADD works to infiltrate these prisons and schools, to teach about the dangers of driving even after one drink. The event has been highly publicized and is expected to generate a great deal of revenue for the organization.
