Groomsman Kills Bridesmaid in DUI Crash, Goes to Prison
June 8, 2009
In April, a Delaware man was drunk when he crashed his car after a wedding rehearsal dinner. He had about 10 cocktails at the event, but said that he did not feel too impaired to drive. He was a groomsman in the upcoming wedding, and a bridesmaid- 25-year-old Megan Perry- asked for a ride to the location where the wedding was taking place the next day.
A short time after the couple left the rehearsal dinner, the groomsman crashed the car into a utility pole. The bridesmaid was pronounced dead at the scene, but the groomsman suffered only from undisclosed injuries.
He pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and now faces a four-year prison sentence for driving a car while under the influence of alcohol. The groomsman’s name is Jayson Maykut. He also may face fines and a revoked license when he is released from prison in four years.
