Police Crack Down During Prom Time
State troopers in all three Deleware counties cited a total of 33 minors for a variety of alcohol violations over the past six weeks as they conducted prom time enforcement activities.
In addition, as graduation season kicks into high gear, authorities will turn their attention toward the "June Bugs" who flock towards the beach each year.
Police will be looking for minors who are walking or driving under the influence, possessing or consuming alcohol, and entering bars or liquor stores with fake IDs.
The recent alcohol violations included 17 underage consumption of alcohol arrests, three underage possession of alcohol arrests, five DUI arrests and eight additional alcohol violations.
Parents of teens or other adults who provide alcohol to minors are also at risk for significant penalties. Anyone who sells to, delivers to, or purchases alcohol for anyone under age 21 faces a fine of up to $500 and 40 hours of community service. Parents who host parties for minors where alcohol is served to and consumed by them may also be held liable in civil court.
