St. Cloud Deputy Mayor Resigns After Second DUI Offense
Last week, St. Cloud Deputy Mayor Mike Wetzel was arrested and faces a second DUI offense within 15 months.
A special election will be held to fill the remainder of Wetzel's term.
Less than a day after Wetzel was re-elected in 2006 he was charged with driving under the influence. He was sentenced to one year of probation, a fine, and revocation of his license after pleading guilty. In addition, he was required to attend DUI school.
Wetzel was arrested again on July 4th after driving through a barricaded special events area. Police report that he was impared by alcohol and game him a field sobriety test. He was charged with a second DUI, violation of a traffic control device, and a seat belt violation.
