Strengthening Georgia DUI Laws

In an effort to protect Georgians and deter drunk driving, Lt. Governor Taylor urged the State to close the loopholes in the Georgia’s DUI laws. His proposal increases penalties for refusal to submit sobriety tests; adds a strict penalty for the offense of fleeing while driving under the influence by increasing it to a felony charge; harmonized provisions related to alcohol and drug consumption while driving; and allows officers to testify on contents in containers. The measure passed the Senate and awaits passage in the House next year.
